The Electronic Assembly and Fabrication Certificate is intended to prepare students to enter the electronics聽field as assembly and fabrication technicians. The program provides a series of courses to meet the needs聽of industry in assembly, electro-mechanical skills, soldering/de-soldering skills, printed circuit board design聽and fabrication for both through-hole and surface mount devices (SMD). Included are skills for various types聽of cabling and connections.
Electronic fundamentals are learned which include electronic test equipment and measurement, electronic components and devices including sensors, microcontrollers, coding, and schematic diagrams. Electronic聽Assembly and Fabrication skills as well as advanced surface mount technology (SMT) skills are taught,聽which are similar in content to the Institute for Printed Circuit (IPC) IPC7711/IPC7721 rework and repair of聽electronic assembly certification.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to read and analyze DC schematics for voltage, current, impedance and power quantities,聽and compare them to measured values.
- Students will demonstrate proper use of electronic test equipment and associate measurement results with circuit聽behaviors in the laboratory.
- Students will demonstrate the ability of a robot to perform specific tasks.
- Students will create using schematic and layout software, as well as manufacture and solder a printed circuit聽board (PCB).
- Students will assemble and repair (soldering) on surface mount assemblies (SMT).
- Students will understand material that is similar in content to the Institute for Printed Circuits (IPC) surface mount聽assembly and rework certification.
