June 04, 2020 - 08:21 AM

During her first year at Mt. SAC, Jasmine Miranda attended a workshop that featured a guest speaker who left her with powerful advice.
鈥淐losed mouths don鈥檛 get fed,鈥 the speaker said, as if speaking directly to self-proclaimed introvert. 鈥淪o you must speak up and take action for what you want because this is your life and you have the power.鈥
In that moment three years ago, Jasmine鈥檚 entire mentality changed.

Jasmine Miranda鈥淚 began to get involved as much as I could on campus, through networking, workshops, volunteer work, and my on-campus jobs,鈥 Jasmine says.

As a first-generation college student, she didn鈥檛 have an example to emulate, but she created a tough act to follow.
鈥淚 will be the first in my family to excel beyond a high school education,鈥 Jasmine says.

Mountie Joe GradDuring the month of June, Mt. SAC social media channels (, and ) will feature a Mountie Grad spotlight each day, sharing the stories of our students鈥 journey through Mt. SAC and where their education is taking them next.

Jasmine MirandaJasmine has excelled beyond high school and then some during her time at Mt. SAC. Jasmine is a Peer Advisor for the Bridge Program, an Honor Student Ambassador with the Honors Program, attendee at the Associated Students leadership conference, an active member of the MEChA club, a Ralph Spaulding Scholarship winner, a CARES Act Grant recipient, and a fixture on the Dean鈥檚 List.
With a resume like that, it鈥檚 easy to see where Jasmine鈥檚 next stop for higher education will be.
鈥淯CLA has always been a dream of mine,鈥 she says, 鈥渁nd I鈥檓 so excited to apply everything I learned as a Mountie as a Bruin.鈥
As she graduates from Mt. SAC, Jasmine plans to study linguistics and psychology in Westwood.
鈥淚 am aiming to pursue a career In Speech-Language Pathology,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 want to give back to my community and help those in need who suffer from speech disorders and impediments.鈥
And while she is off to bigger things at UCLA, Jasmine will look back at Mt. SAC with great fondness.
鈥淚鈥檝e had such a great college experience,鈥 Jasmine says, 鈥渁nd I can鈥檛 wait for what鈥檚 to come when I transfer to my dream school this Fall.鈥
