The Center is intended to be a safe space- to create a safe space requires that we all take responsibility for our contributions to maintaining such space for all. We are working to not replicate systems of oppression so that we can be our authentic selves.  The goal of the Pride Center is to support the success of LGBTQ+ students. It is not an 'anything goes' space. And as a campus entity we also abide by the Mt. SAC Student Standards of Conduct

        Be Respectful to Yourself
        What this looks like:

        • Knowing your needs- if you need to study and it is not "Happy Hour" ask respectfully for others to keep their voices down.
        • Being aware of Happy Hours and Study Hours and plan your time in the Center accordingly (designated Happy Hours and Study Hours have yet to be determined for the Spring Semester – please check back for updates on these designated times).
        • Being proud of who you are.

        Be Respectful to Others

        What this looks like:

        • Being aware of noise level- including your voice, electronics, and conversations.
        • Learning and using people's preferred names and pronouns
        • Being in tune with what others around you are doing and respect their needs. Is someone trying to study? if so, maybe your conversation should be quieter? Is there a group discussion happening? if so, maybe you should use headphones to listen to music.
        • Asking questions to learn about other perspectives, rather than making assumptions.
        • Keeping confidentiality and not outing others- everyone's story is their own.

        Be Respectful to Your Surroundings
        What this looks like:

        • Cleaning up after ourselves- pick up trash, throw away food, help neaten up when needed.
        • Participating in the programs of the center and contributing to the development of this shared space.
        • Eating and drinking away from the computers and printer.

We are here to learn, relax, socialize, engage, and to give and get support. Conversations in the Center must be appropriate for a public shared space- so please refrain from any inappropriate behavior. What's that look like? Here are some examples of inappropriate behavior from the Student Standards of Conduct:

        • Disruptive behavior, willful disobedience, habitual profanity or vulgarity
        • Lewd, indecent or obscene conduct
        • Engaging in expression which is obscene; libelous or slanderous
