Frequently Asked Questions

    • Who can use the Makerspace?
      All Mt. SAC students, staff, and faculty are eligible to use the Makerspace as long as they are enrolled in a credit or non-credit Mt. SAC course.
    • How much does membership cost?
      Students, staff, and faculty must register for the course associated with the Makerspace lab each semester.
    • Do I need an appointment to use the Makerspace?
      No appointment is necessary. You may visit during the Open Hours.
    • Is there a minimum or maximum of how much or how often I can use the Makerspace?
      At present, our Open Hours are as follows:
      Mondays – Closed
      Tuesdays - 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm
      Wednesdays - 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm
      Thursdays - 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm
      Fridays 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
      Saturdays 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
      Sunday – Closed
    • Is there a dress code to use the Makerspace?

      Closed-toed shoes are required at all times in and around the Makerspace. You may also need to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety goggles, gloves, and earplugs to protect yourself from debris and noise hazards while working with tools and equipment.

    • Can I use any/all of the equipment once I'm a member?

      We have an equipment clearance system in place for the Yellow and Red-zoned areas. All users must pass a proficiency test with one of our qualified technicians.. Speak to the technician on staff for additional information.

    • What if I don't know how to use a machine?

      All staff onsite can assist you with the tools located in the Green Room, as well as general tools. For the tools in the Yellow and Red zones, please speak to the Line-of-sight faculty or the technician.

    • Do I have to bring my own supplies?

      We have supplies on hand for Green Room activities. We ask that you bring your own supplies if your project requires a large amount of material.
      Some supplies require prior approval, especially plastics.

    • May I bring my kids?

      Only individuals enrolled in credit or non-credit Mt. SAC courses may visit or use the Makerspace. Children are not allowed in the Makerspace unless there is a public event occurring.

    • What accommodations can you make?

      Depending on your particular circumstance, we recommend you contact ACCESS so that specific provision may be made to accommodate your needs.
